The air, soil, and water are being polluted and more people are getting sick, while health care costs are rising. Simply, the way most people live now is not sustainable for the generations to come.
CGI hosted the Earth Citizen Organization (ECO) Presentation this past Wednesday. Mr. Kim, the Executive Director of ECO delivered this presentation explaining the mission of ECO and the importance of being an earth citizen.
The earth has undergone a dramatic change in the past two hundred years, more than it had since its existence to the 18th centuries. The industrial revolution and development of technology have fueled mass production. The population has grown drastically while the natural resources are rapidly depleting. The air, soil, and water are being polluted and more people are getting sick, while health care costs are rising. Simply, the way most people live now is not sustainable for the generations to come.
Who should do
something about this? The presentation showed the importance of one person’s
role. “Our personal choices are much more powerful that we think they are, only
if we make them more mindfully considering not only our personal health but
also the health of the planet and all life forms on it. Thanks to the system of
market economy and democracy, our power of choice, exercised mindfully, will
change our lifestyles and cultures including corporations, organizations and
governments.” Said Mr. Kim.In an effort to inspire communities, ECO has been offering a leadership development program where participants can learn practical knowledge for mindful living, health, sustainability, and leadership skills to teach others. Mr. Kim is quoted as saying, “This is a very exciting and fun time, especially for young people. Through a variety of activities and practices, they will develop leadership and learn to get healthier in body and mind in a simpler and more natural way!”
