Mindfulness and stress management for the youth

Health > CGI Healthy Life By CGI Holistic Wellness Center

Its purpose is to provide friendship, emotional support, and guidance to youth through their involvement with positive role models.

In March, one of our instructors, Master Jo, was invited to two places to teach energy yoga.

The first place that he visited was Dominican College. There, he gave an interactive lecture about mindfulness through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. Big Brothers Big Sisters of America is the largest youth mentoring organization in the United States. The organization provides one-to-one mentoring relationships between children and adults. Its purpose is to provide friendship, emotional support, and guidance to youth through their involvement with positive role models. Their national motto is "making a difference, one child at a time." Master Jo expressed that he ‘felt a huge privilege and an even bigger responsibility to deliver my heart through the energy of my own mindful and energy practice. I am happy to say that all students left that room with more energy, a positive outlook on their lives, from their obstacles, to their successes.’

At first, the children that attended were not interested or engaged. However, through different activities and inspiring sharing from Master Jo, the children were soon paying full attention and listening intently. The lecture was so moving and successful that Master Jo was invited to do a SECOND session this week on how to manage stress and the brain through integrative holistic training!

This past week, Master Jo was also invited to teach a group of young, high school, ice hockey players how to stretch and breathe before getting in to the game. This team is long-time champion group. They had just finished their final playoffs game and had won. Soon, they will play in the finals! Master Jo may see this group again before their final game. Good luck Boys!
