Due to its addictiveness, people have thought drinking coffee was as bad as smoking cigarettes. However, recent studies are showing some good news for coffee drinkers. Let’s see some facts about coffee.

While coffee is one of the most popular beverages in the world, there has been a notion that drinking coffee is an unhealthy habit. Due to its addictiveness, people have thought drinking coffee was as bad as smoking cigarettes. However, recent studies are showing some good news for coffee drinkers. Let’s see some facts about coffee.

According to the study done at Harvard School of Public Health, coffee consumption may protect against type 2 diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, liver cancer, and liver cirrhosis. Harvard’s study on coffee and mortality found that those who drank coffee regularly had lower risk of death from cardiovascular disease than those who rarely did. Science has yet to prove the cause and effect between coffee and these illnesses but considering these facts, coffee seems to be one of the greatest beverages. Isn’t this wonderful? There aren’t many things that we love which are actually good for our body. Coffee can be one of these things!

So what else you should know about drinking coffee?

Coffee contains many chemical compounds. This is one of the reasons why you may have heard that coffee is both good and bad. First, pregnant women and people who have trouble controlling their blood pressure or sugar should avoid drinking coffee. Second, do not drink too much. You need to know your limit. Due to caffeine, coffee may cause heartburn, acid reflux, insomnia, and dehydration. Third, know what types of coffee you should drink. Here, we are talking about a regular paper filtered coffee with very little or no sugar. If you are thinking of a Frappuccino topped with whipped cream, it sounds delicious, but we are not on the same page. The sugar, calories and fat will simply override the health benefits the coffee may offer. Finally, drink regular paper filtered or instant coffee rather than boiled coffee. The boiled ones are much higher in cafestol, which is a potent stimulator of LDL.

You should note that coffee drinkers exercise less than those do not drink coffee. Some say this is reason why people used to believe coffee was not good for health because they have seen unhealthy people drink a lot of coffee. Therefore, it is not wise to think you can improve your health just by drinking coffee. So why don’t you take a walk for half an hour before you have your morning coffee, to start your day?
