Prevent Post-Thanksgiving Symptoms

Thanksgiving is tomorrow! I wish all of you a happy holiday! We are happy to eat lots of delicious food and some sweet drinks, but it is usually the day after Thanksgiving we realize that we perhaps had way too much food. Due to eating much more than usual, there are many who suffer post-Thanksgiving symptoms such as acid-reflux and bloated stomach. Some suffer more severely than others depending on their stomach conditions and the amount of food they eat. In order not to feel this way after Thanksgiving, you may want to do some simple practices that will prevent you from overeating.

1. Drink some water an hour before the dinner. This prepares your body to intake a heavy meal and helps your body digest the food.

2. Take your time while eating. Eat slowly and chew the food. Don’t swallow.  Chewing is the first digestion process. It helps your stomach break down all the food easier and faster.

3. If you are full, drop the folk. Take a break and eat again little later. There will be a lot of leftover. So don’t worry and give yourself some break to digest the food you already ate.

4. Drink some green tea before or after the meal. This helps your body break down the fat you consume.

5. Do not lay down right after eating. Walk around, help washing dishes or even just stand and talk to stay active for a while after the meal.

You have more days to enjoy after the Thanksgiving till Monday. Overeating will probably make you feel sick and ruin your time of rest after the holiday.

Have a happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving Recipes!

As I wanted to show some Korean dishes for this thanksgiving as well as traditional American ones, I came to realize how difficult to translate all the cooking instructions from Korean to English. I was also concerned that someone might not clearly understand the translation and prepare food not exactly the way the direction says. So I did more research to find websites written in English about some Korean food for the thanksgiving and have come across this wonderful website. So I would rather post the link than translating some long cooking directions. One is about some traditional healthy Thanksgiving  recipes and the other is for some recommended Korean food for Thanksgiving. Thanks to the ones who share these recipes!

Thanksgiving Plan

Thanksgiving is in about 2 weeks. Did you already plan for the thanksgiving?  A few days ago, I was listening to news that WalMart will open at 6pm on thanksgiving day and some people are not happy about it because they might have to give up their time to have a thanksgiving dinner with their friends and families in order to get the TV they have wanted at the 70% discounted price, but apparently some shoppers are very happy because they have been waiting for this holiday shopping season and need not to wake up so early to be the first one on line to get in the store. So I guess you can have a dinner and shop the next day or have a lunch calling it ‘early thanksgiving dinner’ and drive to a Walmart. Whichever is your plan for thanksgiving, I wish you all happy thanksgiving!

I believe many of you plan to have delicious thanksgiving meal and share some quality time with your families and friends. If you happen to be the one who prepares the food for the loving ones, you should consider preparing healthy thanksgiving meal rather than delicious meal. The reason I say this is because this is a critical time for those who have been on a diet or those who have been exercising since this summer.  A lot of people desire to have a nice and healthy looking body during summer time and many of them start to exercise put themselves on a diet plan to transform their bodies. However, many of them fail to continue their plans and to keep the promises they made to themselves. What usually makes them fail? It is the thanksgiving food. This is perfect opportunity to give up the diet! It is because there are so many temptations. There are so many delicious food and sweets. The temptation is too strong to resist although they know they are not supposed to even look at those food. Also, it is winter. It’s time to wear many layers of cloths which hide some extra pounds in the body. Last, it is the thanksgiving after all. It is only once a year. You certainly don’t want your loving ones to fail their diet because of the sweet and fatty food you have prepared, do you? The good news is there are many ways to prepare food for healthy thanksgiving. On the next blog, I will share some healthy thanksgiving recipes I found.

Types of Baths

There are many different ways to take a bath.  Each has its own purpose.
Here are five kinds of baths that I have come across while researching.

1. Half-Bath
- Only half of your body is under the water. The line is probably near the belly button. The reason to put only the bottom half in water is to promote blood circulation. As the heated blood goes up and cool blood down, it helps the blood circulation by heating the blood sitting in the bottom part of the body. You may feel little cold since the upper body is out in the air. If you are sick, wait until you get better! (About 20-30mins)

2. Foot Bath
- It is pretty much the same principle as the half-bath. The only difference is that you only put your feet under the water. It’s simple and easy! Add a small amount of apple cider vinegar. The vinegar kills bacteria and fungus. (About 15mins)

3. Sitz Bath
- Only your bottom area in the water. Get a bucket that is large enough for you to sit inside. Fill it with warm water and sit inside. Your legs should be out of the bucket. This is believed to ease the pain from hemorrhoid. But it is not indented to treat any medical condition. If any concern, please see your doctor. (About 15 mins)

4. Epsom Salt Bath
- I think many of you might have heard of this one. It helps detox your skin and relieve sore muscles. Dissolve about 2 cups of Epsom salt in the hot water. It’s a full body bath.  (About 20-30mins)

5. Apple Cider Vinegar Bath
- Apparently this vinegar is good for many things. It is also good for a warm full bath. Add about a cup of apple cider vinegar to the water.  (About 20-30mins)

Taking a Bath. Chandler likes it!

Since the winter is right around the corner, some of you might want to know about bathing. I actually looked up the definition of bath and it said “act of immersing and washing one’s body in a large container of water”.  Hmmm... Is bathing all about personal hygiene? Not exactly! it has more to offer to you.

Bathing is perhaps the best way to relax your body. After a long day at work, your body is stressed and tensed.  You might even feel sore muscles. From now till tomorrow morning is your time to recharge your body to get through another long day. So it is important for you to know how to effectively and properly relax your body. Try to take a bath! You will feel different after it. Soaking the body in a hot tub helps repair sore and tensed muscles and also gives sensual delight, which relives your stress.  This also conditions your physical and mental status perfect to fall into a deep sleep which is the most important part of this recharging process.

I remember watching an episode of Friends where Chandler first refused to listen to Monica who told him to take a bath but once he did, he loved it so much and always took the tub first after work so Monica could not take her bath.

I am very positive that you will be like Chandler once you take your first one.,,lol

I will also post different types of baths next time. Stay tuned!
